Summary
I ’ve always felt some of the best sitcom characters were often the most underutilized , and there were plenty of hilarious theatrical role I ’d love to have seen more of . While I concord , there ’s some merit to the idea that less can be more when it come to dear sitcom characters , and by keeping their appearances brief , the excitement whenever they appeared onscreen was be maintained . However , I can not help palpate that some theatrical role ’ potential has been wasted through their fix use , and these situation comedy could have benefited from giving some of these secondary characters more fourth dimension in the spotlight .
I ’m sure everybody has a different resolution regarding who they intend werethe most otiose sitcom characters , but these were some who I believe could have benefited from further appearance . While some of these characters only showed up for a couple of episodes , others were more prominent yet still could have had more ontogenesis , storylines , and a larger character electric discharge associate with them . While it ’s unacceptable to go back and change the past tense , I would have loved to have realise more of these uproarious sitcom grapheme .
8Gail The Snail
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2005 - Present)
While the ring fromIt ’s Always Sunny in Philadelphiahas always shock and enthralled me , I guess one of the show ’s honest aspect was how creativeAlways Sunny’ssupporting characterswere . From the slow diminution of Rickety Cricket to the creepy milk - drinking presence of the McPoyles , the wayward dance orchestra of geek who institute their way into Paddy ’s Pub have never go to make me laugh . However , one character I thinkAlways Sunnycould have used a piffling spot more of was Dennis and Dee ’s formidable cousin , Gail the Snail .
Gail the Snail get her name because Dennis and Dee would throw salt at her to keep her aside , and having just appeared in four episodes , I believe she was distressingly underutilized . Gail was first introduced in Season 5 and , in her few appearances , has shone through as one of the most memorable and disconcerting character in the series , especially considering her uncomfortable family relationship with her uncle Frank . AsAlways Sunnycontinues as the longest - track down lively - action American situation comedy , there ’s certainly room for more Gail - centrical stories .

7Creed Bratton
The Office (2005 - 2013)
While some viewer loveThe Officebecause of the poignant romance between Jim and Pam or the outrageous antics of Michael Scott , one of my favorite aspects was Creed Bratton . To me , Creed feel like an anomaly in the serial , a secret waiting to be unveil whose every natural process and utterance hinted at a captivating life story alfresco of the Dunder Mifflin composition distributor . While audiences were given hints about Creed ’s personal life , I ’d jazz to have seen a draw more of it in the show .
Everything about Creed charm me , from the fact thathe ’s take on a fictionalize version of himself and is actually named Creed Brattonto his backstory as a rock star , drug exploiter , and former homeless someone . While Creed was given more storylines asThe Officeprogressed , I was deplorable he never truly got his meter in the glare , and I ’d love to have seen more Creed - based episodes . Although it may not be official canyon , one of my favorite Creed here and now come when he met Jesse fromBreaking Badduring a skit at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards .

6Mona Lisa Saperstein
Parks and Recreation (2009 - 2015)
One of my favourite thing aboutParks and Recreationwas how absurd the residents of Pawnee , Indiana , were and the unbelievable interactions they would have with the Parks Department . Some of the safe moments came in Town Hall get together or when the world would be invite into the federal agency , although another go back resident who I always wanted to see more of came through Tom Haverford ’s hilarious business married person Jean - Ralphio . While I love Jean - Ralphio , it was his sister , Mona Lisa Saperstein , who I always wanted to see more of .
Jenny Slate like an expert portrayed Mona Lisa , who was described by her brother as “ the worst person in the world " and a " total klepto , nympho , and pyro . ” While Mona Lisa left a lasting stamp in every episode she was in , I was shocked to learn that she turned up in just nine instalment ofParks and Rec . For such a hilarious character with so much untapped voltage , I thought Mona Lisa was distressingly underutilized throughout the serial publication and could have impart further to the misadventure of Tom , Jean - Ralphio , and the repose of the Parks Department .
This political sitcom full of liquid body substance and sum keep up the adventures of Leslie Knope , lieutenant director of the Parks Department in the fancied town of Pawnee , Indiana . Every week holds a new crisis of small - town politics , but Leslie and her friends work tirelessly to make Pawnee — and the world — a best position .

5Kirk Van Houten
The Simpsons (1989 - Present)
AsThe Simpsonsprogressed over the years , I guess it was fascinating to witness how the show grew from pore on the antic of the family toa true ensemble embrace the intact spectrum of Springfield . I loved the way the series fleshed out not just the circumstances surrounding the kinsfolk ’s life but went even further to give the secondary character , like Bart ’s best friend Milhouse , their own fully formed family . Out of this care to detail come one of my favorite characters , Milhouse ’s father , Kirk Van Houten .
For my money , Kirk had some of the greatestSimpsonsmoments , including “ I sleep in a airstream car , do you ? ” to “ can I borrow a feeling ? ” and there was something so compelling and pathetic about the case . While I agree Kirk had several sequence that shed light on his screaming character , I have always wanted to see more of him . As Kirk traversed the challenges of his separation from Lunane , getting fired from the cracker factory , and trying to form a relationship with his boy post - divorcement , there were plenty more chance for Kirk episode .
The Simpsons is a long - running revivify idiot box series produce by Matt Groening that satirically follows a work - class kin in the misfit city of Springfield . Homer , a bit of a schmoe who make for at a nuclear force plant , is the supplier for his family , while his wife , Marge , seek to keep saneness and reason in the home to the estimable of her power . Bart is a born mischief-maker , and Lisa is his super - reasoning sister who observe herself surrounded by people who ca n’t understand her . at long last , Maggie is the mysterious babe who act as a deus ex machina when the series scream for it . The show puts the crime syndicate in several crazy situation while constantly tackling socio - political and pop - civilisation topics set within their world , bring home the bacon an often sharp critique of the subject covered in each sequence . 4Pierce Hawthorne
Community (2009 - 2015)
The towelette tycoon turned college scholar , Pierce Hawthorne , was an intact part of the Greendale written report group for the first four seasons ofCommunity . Although Pierce was boorish , offensive , and downright objectionable most of the sentence , he was also among my favorite fellow member of the mould and contributed to some of Community ’s funniest moments through his ended lack of social decorousness . I always thought Pierce was a majuscule character with draw of potential , and that ’s why I was so saddened that he was written off the show due to behind - the - scenes problems with his worker , Chevy Chase .
I ’m well cognisant that Chase has always been notably difficult to work with and that these problem continued on the determined ofCommunityas he get himself in conflict with showrunner Dan Harmon and co - asterisk like Donald Glover . Despite this , I believe Pierce ’s absence was significantly felt in later season ofCommunity , and I would have loved to have see more of him . While I acknowledge it ’s improbable that Chase will appear in the upcomingCommunitymovie , I ’m still holding out hope they notice a way to give testimonial to his fiber in some way .

3Bo Derek Thompson
Superstore (2015 - 2021)
I always love the workplace sitcomSuperstoreand tuned in every hebdomad to find the trials and tribulations of the employees of Cloud 9 . With an incredible array of gifted performers , Cheyenne Thompson ( Nichole Sakura ) stood out as my favorite as I not only get hold her hilarious , but the way she built herself up from a pregnant high schooltime student to a savvy supervisor was truly inspiring . summate to this , oneSuperstorecharacter I would have be intimate to see more of was Cheyenne ’s cooperator , Bo Derek Thompson .
Bo was a wannabe rapper who got lease to and tie Cheyenne over the path ofSuperstore . Although Bo ’s appearances were brief , he always leave behind a big picture , as his cluelessness , unfounded ego - belief , and love for Cheyenne meant that , despite his faults , I was always rooting for him . I was worked up at the idea of learn more of Bowhen theSuperstorespin - offBo & Cheyennewas announced in 2020 ; however , this dreaming was crush when it was revealed NBC was not prompt forward with the project .
2Newman
Seinfeld (1989 - 1998)
One of my favourite thing aboutSeinfeldwas that the series did n’t need to write everything out to us viewers and was comfortable leaving certain aspects of a mystery . This was especially the example when it come tothe reasoning behind Jerry ’s hatred of Newman , his arch - nemesis and sworn competition . This hilariously bitter relationship intend that Newman act as a constant thorn in Jerry ’s side and while he was hilarious in all of his appearances , I would have loved to have see more of Newman throughoutSeinfeld .
While it ’s lawful that Newman ’s character got more screen metre asSeinfeldprogressed , his job with the Postal Service and frequent involvement with Kramer ’s outlandish scheme mean there were enough more opportunities to include him . Wayne Knight did an incredible job playing Newman , and he appeared in 44 out of the 180 installment . While I always wish to see more of Newman , I was proud of to see him reprise his function in an ad for the US Postal Service in 2020 title “ A substance from Your Friendly Local Mail Carrier . ”

Co - starring is Julia Louis - Dreyfus as Jerry ’s ex-wife - girlfriend and current platonic buddy , Elaine Benes ; Jason Alexander as George Costanza , Jerry ’s psychoneurotic hard - fortune best friend ; and Michael Richards as Jerry ’s eccentric neighbor , Kramer .
1Carol Willick
Friends (1994 - 2004)
WhileFriendsrevolved around the heart and soul six fiber who made up its tout ensemble , part of the reason the series was such a success was because it had such an incredible roster of supporting grapheme . I have always enjoyed the fatuity of Ugly Naked Guy and thought Janice was the funniest of all the appendage ' partners , but one theatrical role who should have played a heavy role in the serial publication was Carol Willick . As Ross Geller ’s ex - wife and the mother of their child , Ben , I always found it unknown how small we go through of Carol throughout the ten season ofFriends .
WhileFriendsoften used Carol ’s abbreviated appearance to joke about her same - sexual activity relationship with Susan Bunch , I think the show miss out on an opportunity to explore more storylines about the trials of traversing divorcement and parenthood . Carol ’s role was tighten asFriendsprogressed , but I conceive as Ben grow old , the series could have leaned more hard into how this affect her and Ross ’s family relationship and communication . Carol was in just 15 episode and did not even come out in the final three seasons , which I think was a disservice to her character ’s importance .
