Summary

The Empyreanseries is build to a repurchase arc for Dain Aetos , butI wishFourth Wingdid a better job of setting this up . Dain is stick in early inFourth Wing , and Rebecca Yarros establishes that he and Violet have been nigh friends for twelvemonth . Dain joins the Riders Quadrant sooner than Violet , and the experience changes him — and not inevitably for the good . Violet spends much of the firstEmpyreanbook grappling with the young kinetics of their relationship . AsFourth Wingcontinues , their bond deteriorates until he betrays her at the very final stage .

Dain and Violet ’s family relationship rest tensethroughoutIron Flame , butthe 2d instalment intimate that Violet ’s childhood friend will get the hazard to redeem himself . I fully expectOnyx Stormand otherEmpyreansequelsto fag deeper into Dain ’s character , challenging him to become a good mortal . While this is n’t of necessity a bad matter , I do wishFourth Winglaid a more substantial foundation garment for Dain ’s redemption . As it stands , I think that Yarros will struggle to make headway reader over .

Fourth Wing is hard to follow because of its well - equilibrate fantasy and romance element , but there are a few great books that share similar themes .

How Iron Flame Set The Stage For Dain’s Redemption Arc In Later Empyrean Books

Dain Realizes What Violet’s Been Through & Helps Her

Violet is truly angry at Dain whenIron Flameopens , butit becomes increasingly clear that he is n’t secret to what happened at Resson — even if he ’s still in the wrong for depend at Violet ’s retention . With this noesis , Iron Flamereiterates something Yarros tries to get across inFourth Wing : that Dain ’s intentions are good , even if his action are n’t always up to par . And from the moment I realized Dain did n’t sleep together the extent of his betrayal , I knew thatThe Empyreanwas build up toa redemption storyline for his eccentric .

Iron Flamereiterates something Yarros tries to get across inFourth Wing : that Dain ’s intention are skilful , even if his actions are n’t always up to equation .

Iron Flameconfirms this , as it experience him become on his father and joining the rebellion . When Major Varrish straining Violet in theFourth Wingsequel , she shows Dain what really happen during the War Games . Realizing what his father has done , Dain turns on Varrish and helps Violet get costless . It ’s a boastful turn full stop for his character , andit promises more redeem mo from him inOnyx Storm . alas , it ’s still concentrated to get on board with a salvation arc for Dain . I wishFourth Winggave reader more reasons to root for him prior to his betrayal .

I Wish Fourth Wing’s Portrayal Of Dain Did A Better Job Setting Up His Redemption

The First Empyrean Book Makes Dain Really Unlikable

It ’s great that Dain hail to his senses inIron Flame , butI still dislike him after everything he does inFourth Wing . It is n’t just the perfidy of Violet ’s confidence that makes him so gruelling to appreciate , though that ’s a vast intellect he ’s hard to redeem . It ’s also the fact that Dain spend so much ofFourth Wingdoubting Violet ’s abilities and questioning everything she goes through . He does n’t even stand by her when Amber Mavis endeavor to have her kill , and he scantily shows any remorse for all the affair he gets wrong .

Fourth Wingdoes very little to establish why Violet and Dain are even booster , and his discourse of her does n’t solidify their adhesiveness . So , while Violet may find like Dain is a different somebody throughout the book , readers but live him as a character who puts his own interests and ambitions before of the multitude he cares about . He does n’t seem like a sound champion or partner , and his actions inIron Flamedon’t do enough to make up for this . I retrieve if readers saw more of the Dain that Violet knows and loves , they ’d be unforced to forgive him .

How The Empyrean Series Can Still Sell Readers On Dain’s Story

Rebecca Yarros Needs To Show Us Why Dain Is Worth Redeeming

Onyx Stormis struggle an uphill battle when it come to selling reader on Dain ’s fictitious character , and it seems like Violet has a way to go before she forgive him as well . Of course , there is still Bob Hope of make Dain ’s buyback piece of work in futureEmpyreannovels . For one , Onyx Stormand its sequels can show us why Dain is deserving redeem by depicting the side of him Violet knew before Basgiath . It would be helpful to see flashbacks of them as children , as this would better establish their Julian Bond and why it might be deserving salve .

More redeeming moments from Dain will have a similar effect . And Dain needs to properly apologize to Violet for all the ways he ’s wrong herandprove that he ’s changed through his actions . This does n’t assure that Violet will forgive him , but it will help him come back fromFourth Wing . Dain has a mountain of body of work to do to get proofreader on his side . I hope he ’s up for the challenge .
